The Will County Board voted 15–6 against a solar facility proposed next to the Meadow Creek Airpark in Monee Township, a residential community built around runways used by amateur pilots. The vote tests whether the state mandate holds when public safety is at issue.

The airpark’s manager and residents warned that panels would leave pilots no safe place for an emergency landing. As the story notes, safety concerns like these aren’t among the factors the state law lets counties weigh.
